CBD & CBG 101: What are the differences and uses?
Our full spectrum hemp offers a natural way to support overall health and wellness. We cultivate quality strains of hemp that provide higher levels of CBD and CBG components, contributing to the high potency of each handcrafted product.
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant, which includes both the hemp plant and marijuana plant. CBD is one of more than one hundred "phytocannabinoids," which are components unique to the cannabis plant. Unlike another main component, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not cause psychoactive effects, and has been studied for a whole host of health benefits ranging from stress relief to mitigating inflammation. CBD lends to a promising future for natural health and wellness.

What's the difference?
CBD
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the dozens of cannabinoids present in the cannabis sativa plant. Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive and instead offers a wide range of health benefits.
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system within our bodies, which is comprised of enzymes that break down CBD, allowing the components to activate the endocannabinoid receptors. This activation is what allows for the range of health benefits.
The non-psychoactive properties of CBD make it ideal for therapeutic use. Some of these health benefits may include relieving anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), targeting chronic pain and inflammation, promoting healthy and sound sleep, calming epilepsy and heart conditions.
Potential CBD Benefits
- Reducing anxiety
- eases depression
- chronic Pain reliever
- promoting healthy sleep
- targeting Inflammation
- calming Epilepsy
CBG
CBG, or cannabigerol, is a less abundant cannabanoid found in cannabis, that also has strong potential for reducing inflammation, easing pain and slowing the growth of some cancer cells. CBG is formed through the decarboxylation process of CBGA (cannabigerolic acid), which is also the precursor of THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) and CBCA (cannabichromenic acid). Decarboxylation is the process that activates components of the cannabis through heat and time.
Unlike CBD, which relies mostly on indirect interactions with the endocannabinoid system, CBG most likely directly interacts with cannabinoid receptors in the brain itself.
Based on the early studies of this component, CBG is likely to have a whole slew of therapeutic benefits, including relieving glaucoma, decreasing inflammation, targeting tumor growth and combatting drug-resistant bacteria.
One challenge with producing CBG is the small yield; it is often found below 1% by weight in a common strain. This makes production expensive and arduous.
We work with breeders who are creating hemp strains with increased CBG components, in order to develop products that can best utilize CBG's potent health benefits.
Potential CBG Benefits
- glaucoma relief
- mitigates inflammation
- targets tumor growth
- allieveates Huntington's Disease
- Chronic Pain Reliever
Full Spectrum Hemp
Full spectrum hemp extract incorporates the whole hemp plant, which in addition to CBD, includes a whole host of other cannabinoids, terpenes and essential oils. Unlike isolated CBD oil, full spectrum hemp extract provides what is known as the "entourage effect," which occurs when cannabinoids are consumed together. This entourage effects prospects that combining multiple types of cannabinoids will strengthen the impact of the overall extract.
Terpenes and essential oils are also components of full spectrum hemp oil, which provide flavor and smell, among other effects, adding to the overall entourage effect. Some common terpenes in hemp include includelimonene, humulene, myrcene, and ocimene.
Full spectrum hemp extract not only provides this enhanced entourage effect, but it includes other components, including vitamins, minerals, fiber, beneficial fatty acids, chlorophyll, and flavanoids. CBD Isolate, on the other hand, only offers the CBD component alone. Offering full spectrum hemp oil allows us to provide a holistic approach to health and wellness with our CBD products.
